Borrowed Language
Borrowed language, or working title - KVLT II 😂
Don’t worry, KVLT I will be on the next album.
I wanted to continue this theme of exploring territory that felt unfamiliar. I am by no means an avid black metal listener, but the drum part, strumming pattern, and general feel of the intro of Borrowed Language felt like it to me.
This one is truly classic CI, but evolved. The ending riff of this song is still my favorite moment in the Constructing Infinity catalog. I thought of this riff YEARS ago when I was nowhere near a guitar and had to hum it into my phone.
Arranging this song so it wasn’t a “riff salad” was an endeavor. I wanted this to evolve, and not really repeat parts, but still sound like it fits together and maintain your interest throughout.
I was super excited when one of my favorite guitar players, Anders Nordstrom, accepted the challenge to cut a solo on this track. I found him on one of those pages that re-shared guitar players years ago. He was sound checking a lead line with a full band for one of the Gospel artists he plays with, Todd Dulaney. The song was called “Your Great Name” and I highly recommend checking it out if you want some uplifting vibes.

In this episode of De-Constructing Infinity, we will be diving into the layers on layers on layers in this song.
