Buoyancy

The concept of the ebb & flow of life is one of the most comforting reminders we have.

Where there’s a low point, there’s an equal and opposite high point. “This too shall pass” might be a cliche, but it’s also a universal truth.

The intro clean part was written as a result of messing around with dotted 8th delay with a really basic clean patch. The way the groove flows sounded… I don’t know… oceanic to me. So I named the song Buoyancy. The nostalgic chord progressions and musical choices ended up being a perfect match to the context in which I named the track, mentioned above.

Buoyancy originally appeared on my 2016 EP, Endure. I never felt that EP had the production worthy of those songs, so I decided to give my favorite track a makeover.

Here’s the original version

My good buddy Dave Pullis had posted a kicks drone shot of an overhead view of a boat that had just cruised around in a circle, leaving a wake behind. At the time i was wrapping up recording Buoyancy 2.0 and was like that’s it. I have to have it. I paid Dave to use it and whipped up the album cover from there

I changed some of the drum parts around, quad tracked the guitars, and played the intro solo like I meant it. Here’s the final product. Enjoy the playthrough for Buoyancy 2.0 and let me know what your favorite riff is!

Here’s a bonus clip I took while in the midst of re-recording it. I set up in the secret room of my co-working space, Hyde House Public studio and let it rip.
